Frequently asked questions

What PH are your tanks kept at

Our tanks are all kept at a PH of 8.2, we recomend a PH between 7.8 and 8.8 for our cichlids. For example - if your tank is at a PH of 7.8 then you need to take exra care acclimatising as the conditions are very diffrent. a big sudden change can kill cichlids.

how should I acclimatize my Malawis?

Step one - Take a bag from your box, cut off the very top knot.

Step two - float the bag in the tank you would like to put the fish in, add a small amount of water from the tank to the bag and pin it to the side of the tank (we use clothes pegs) make sure the bag does not fall into the tank and keep it floating

step three - wait 10 - 15 mins and add some more water to the bag.

If the PH or temprature is very diffrent then your need to do step three many times to not shock the cichlids. sometimes even for up to an hour.

Will my current fish accept my new ones

There are three main things you can do to distract your current fish from the new.

1. feed them (make sure they are not hungry) you can do this after you've added your new fish

2. most crucially, move all the decorations in the tank. you can move them back later and itll distract them from the new ones

3. Turn off the lights

your current fish may be curious and start pecking at the new ones, and because the new ones maybe confused they will likely not fight back. New fish need to become confident in a new environmant before displaying normal behaviour.

your fish may also attack because of teratory reasons (especially if there is breeding behaviour in the tank) follow these steps to ensure all your fish get along and remember that step two is the most important. Its all about distracting

Can I order now and receive my fish later

You can order whenever you like and exept delivery whenever it suits you. Many people want them straight away but some may have problems with their tank. We want our fish to be safe so we are willing to wait. This means your can order when we have a special offer on and recieve them later in the month. Contact us to ask for any advice at the bottom of the website, we are happy to help.

what's the best way to set up a brand new tank

we have the easiest way to set up a brand new tank and have it ready after just a day! with just three things !

equipment you need -

1. heater (water needs to be 23 - 30 degrees celsius)

2. tank filter (this will also provide oxygen)

3. prime (we can provide this to customers in required amounts, just ask us or you can buy full bottles on amazon) this will get rid of ammonia.

thats all you need! but you need to make sure that your filter has an established sponge inside. In english? you need a dirty sponge in your filter.

a dirty sponge provides the live bacteria your tank will need... and thats it ? yep! thats it.

so put all the equipment in your tank, turn your filter on (dirty sponge in) and a splash of prime and your good to go ! make sure you have lots of bubbles coming out of your filter, the fish do need to breathe! you can also add more bubbles with an airstone.

please make sure you test your water before putting any fish in but that should be perfect!

need a dirty sponge ? messege us below and we can post you one.
